Bathroom Tile Ideas can bring back your Bathroom to Life
When first designing your bathroom, one piece of the whole project probably comes to your mind before any other. Can you guess what it is? Yep, bathroom tiles! This element is really important. Without proper selected tiles, your bathroom will looks miserable. Of course you don’t want this to happen. Bathroom is an important space in our home.
Bathroom tiles are probably the first port of call for anyone re-designing a bathroom – That was certainly the case for me when I modernized our bathroom last fall. So with everyone searching for bathroom tile ideas it’s only fair I wrote about my experience – As you know, nothing can beat experience.
Play with the light You have
Most bathrooms are fairly dark places. They have one, rather small window and even then you’ll often find that window frosted or a lining placed over it to stop the neighbors from looking in. This is a nightmare for the decorator trying to make the most of any light getting into the room!
With this in mind, we would avoid the current trend for dark/black tiles and instead focus on brighter colors. The only proviso with this would be if you decided on installing a large number of LED or halogen spotlights to drive more light into your bathroom space.
Either way, when it comes to a simple choice between lighter and darker, you’ll need to plan ahead and ensure you’re either making the most of natural light or installing additional lighting to pick up the slack.
Hiding the dirt
It’s not a nice thing to think of, but one day your brand new bathroom will be slightly older. Dirt will have found its way here and there; you have to prepare your bathroom beforehand or it will begin to look tired far quicker.
If you decide on lighter color tiles, try to stick with patterns or perhaps a stone look instead of plain colors. White tends to show dirt, as does black or navy blue. Mosaic tiles are great for hiding the dirt; something not lost on swimming pool installers the world over!
Price & Cost per meter
Tiles are quite possibly the most expensive part of any bathroom refit, especially if you plan on tiling the whole room including the floor. It’s quite easy to panic when researching the cost of tiles and opt for cheaper versions to try and keep the budget intact.
A big mistake! Far from tightening the budget, we would suggest attempting to make cost savings elsewhere and actually spending more on the tiling. As I said at the start of this article, tiles are the first thing people think about and also the first thing people notice about a bathroom too.
Cheap tiles can often let down the look of a new bathroom design; particularly if you’ve tried hard to buy “quality pieces” to give your bathroom a premium feel. So please, try not to skimp on those tiles. They’re quite possibly the most important part of your bathroom design!
